WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This nationally recognised course is for participants working in or wanting to work in the resources and infrastructure industry. Recognised driver’s licence or provisional car licence must be held prior to commencing this unit of competency. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must have the language, literacy, numeracy (LLN) and physical capabilities to meet the performance criteria of this unit. (For further information or if you have any concerns regarding LLN and/or physical capabilities please contact the office)

  • Participants must have the ability to read and write English and be able to perform practical and theoretical assessment as required.

  • Students must wear standard work wear, enclosed safety shoes, long shirt and pants.

Current drivers licence

UPON COMPLETION
Upon successful completion of this course, each participant will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and wallet sized card for:

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Induction and enrolment

  • Identify 4WD and defensive driving specific terms, terminology andtechniques including front wheel hubs, tyres, rating & pressure and recovery hooks and mounting features.

  • Identify, address and report potential hazards and risks

  • Plan for minimal environmental impact

  • Perform pre-departure checks

  • Engage 4WD mode

  • Use appropriate range, gear, speed, driving and braking technique,

  • negotiate a range of terrain types whilst maintaining control of the vehicle, on and off road

  • Perform recovery of a 4WD vehicle

  • Conduct inspection and perform maintenance and minor repairs
